Details

This biennial report documents data on over 19,000 grants awarded by over 1,300 foundations, intermediary NGOs, and corporations and by 16 donor government and multilateral agencies to over 7,000 grantees during the two-year period of 2023-2024.

The report documents $861.5 million in philanthropic and government support for LGBTI communities worldwide – a 5 percent decline from the previous reporting period. The decrease is largely due to the drop in US funding (24%), but it also comes amid growing anti-rights mobilization, democratic backsliding, shrinking civic space, and unprecedented cuts to international development assistance.

There is some good news, including that funding for LGBT movements in the Global South, including sub-Saharan Africa, and the Global East, increased by 21%. Funding, excluding the US, also rose by 20%.

However, funding of anti-LGBTI organisations remains much higher. For example, three anti-LGBTI rights organisations alone reported $1.1 billion in income.
