Research opportunity: how can UK civil society can use the law to hold corporations to account?

We are looking for a researcher/s to write a short, accessible report to support the new focus of our Strengthening Civil Society programme.
Strengthening Civil Society

The Baring Foundation is looking for a researcher or researchers to support the new funding theme of our Strengthening Civil Society programme.

The successful consultant/s will research and write a short, accessible report outlining the ways UK civil society organisations can use legal tools to hold corporations to account for their role in creating, perpetuating or exacerbating discrimination or disadvantage and to achieve wider social change.

Our objectives for this research are to:

  • gain an in-depth understanding of how the law has been used to tackle corporate harm in the UK;
  • collate key information about the different legal tools available to CSOs in this area;
  • understand the opportunities for civil society to use legal tools; and
  • understand the limitations of using the law in this area.

Eligibility: We are looking for applicants with experience of using the law to hold corporations to account whether that is through legal practice, campaigning or academia. The ideal researcher/s will have some understanding and knowledge of UK civil society; however this is not compulsory.

Fee: £20,000 (inclusive of all time, expenses, taxes, and any other associated costs).

For a timeline and details of how to apply, please read our Research Brief.
