We are pleased to announce that the Baring Foundation has appointed Lucy de Groot CBE as its new Chair for a three-year term. Lucy has been a Trustee for the Baring Foundation since 2013 and also served for the last five years as the Chair of the Strengthening Civil Society Programme Committee.
Lucy was until September 2014 the Chief Executive of CSV (Community Service Volunteers), the UK wide volunteering and social action charity leading their transformation programme (now called Volunteering Matters). Her previous experience includes being the Executive Director of the Improvement and Development Agency for local government, a senior civil servant at the Treasury, and Chief Executive of Bristol City Council. Lucy started her working life as a community worker in London and Manchester. An experienced non-executive, she has chaired two Children Services Improvement Boards, been on her local NHS commissioning group, is on the advisory panel for the NCVO, a trustee of New Philanthropy Capital (NPC), and has been an adult education college Governor and trustee of a national sports volunteering charity.
Lucy takes over from Janet Morrison OBE who has done sterling work as Chair of the Foundation for the last six years.
“I feel very honoured to have been asked to take on the Chair of the Foundation focusing on our core purpose of protecting and advancing human rights and promoting inclusion. I am looking forward to working with my fellow trustees and with the Director, David Cutler, and his talented and committed team. Janet will be a hard act to follow and I want to thank her for her determination, humour and hard work.”
