The Baring Foundation’s Strengthening Civil Society (SCS) programme aims to support organisations within civil society to make effective use of the law and human rights-based approaches to tackle discrimination and disadvantage and bring about wider social change. This includes changes in policy, regulation and law; changes in behaviour, attitudes and norms; and new ways of designing and delivering services or support for individuals.
As part of considering the future direction of the programme, in 2025 the Foundation commissioned four scoping papers on the narrower themes of Corporate Accountability, Criminal Justice, Environment and Human Rights, and Human Rights.
All four papers explore the potential for UK civil society to use and grow its use of the law and human rights to tackle discrimination and disadvantage arising in these four areas.
The papers were written by Nick Perks, Tayyiba Bajwa, Gita Parihar and Nazia Latif.
