The Baring Foundation does not have a single preferred way of funding but seeks to ‘build a field’ over time using many tools. This includes funds to build capacity, to run projects and deliver services and to core fund.
We would always wish to pay reasonable overheads and fair wages for anyone paid through our funds.
We frequently create joint funding programmes with other funders.
We run open rounds of funding, but these are not necessarily annual but when there is something we wish to achieve. Our open rounds are always high competitive.
We occasionally invite applications or run limited tenders when we feel there is a strategic issue to be addressed, such as new models of working, networking and convening, or research and advocacy.
All open funding opportunities are always advertised on our website and in our Arts programme e-newsletter and we seek to give applicants reasonable time to put in an application, usually at least two months.
