The Baring Foundation is pleased to be part of a new collaborative Independent Fund for Human Rights in Scotland launched this week.

Open to organisations working to protect and promote human rights in Scotland, the fund will offer:

  • Grants of between one and three years.
  • Maximum grants of £50,000 per year for up to three years, i.e. a total maximum of £150,000.
  • Minimum grants of £10,000 per year for one year, i.e. a total minimum of £10,000.

Collaborative applications are welcome.

Carolyn Sawers, Corra CEO, speaking on behalf of the funding partnership said:

“It’s a critical time for human rights in Scotland. People are facing rights issues every day, for example around poverty, housing, education, health, racism, disability. People can hold power to account, but they often need support to do that. That’s why independent funding for third sector and community groups is so important.

We are deeply grateful to the many people who have contributed to the development of this Fund, including civil society experts and our fellow funders.”

The Independent Human Rights Fund is independent of government and is open to non-statutory organisations working in Scotland.

Current funders include: AB Charitable Trust, Binks Trust, Cattanach, Corra Foundation, The Baring Foundation, The Robertson Trust and William Grant Foundation. It is hosted by Corra Foundation.

The Fund has already made three grants, reflecting a range of work supporting communities to power social change and secure justice. It is now open to applications until 12 noon on Wednesday 4 September 2024.

Around £900,000 is available for this open call, which is likely to result in between six and 12 grants. Corra anticipates a high level of demand.

Two online information sessions will be held on Tuesday 18 June (2.30pm and 6.30pm). People interested in applying to the Fund can sign up via Corra’s website.
