The end result of Robert’s work is ‘Getting On’ is a multi-faceted, sculpture and toy/machine, created with care home residents, and ripe for exploration and enjoyment by adults and children alike.
Getting On was unveiled at Millbrook Lodge care home in Gloucestershire last July. Since then, it has visited Gloucester Cathedral, been exhibited at New Brewery Arts with other works by Robert Race, and displayed at the Dementia Congress in Telford last November.
This grant by The Baring Foundation to New Brewery was one of several in the ‘Late Style’ series, whereby arts organisations commissioned artists over 70 to create work on the theme of ageing. The Foundation subsequently provided further funding for Getting On to go on tour to 15 more care homes.
