Late Style – an interview with light sculptor Ron Haselden

For its exhibition in Spring 2016, visual arts agency, Fabrica, along with Brighton Festival, commissioned sculptor Ron Haselden to make a new work for the gallery. The result was ‘Luminary’, a series of lightworks taken from the drawings of older people.

Luminary drew on Ron’s interest in drawings ‘by the untutored hand’, in this case older people from around England, some living in care homes. The drawings were made into giant pieces and displayed inside a darkened church, outside the building and in homes around the Hanover area in Brighton.

This grant by The Baring Foundation to Fabrica was one of 11 in the ‘Late Style’ series, whereby  arts organisations commissioned artists over 70 to create work on the theme of ageing.
